Inside intel on visiting Ireland & the Marathon

I just got off the phone with my uncle Donal (I'm a Tynan by marriage so he is not related) who now lives in Turkey but has spent most of his life in and out of Ireland after being born there 73 years ago. He suggested that if you want to meet family there that might be lost to you to take an advert out in a local paper well in advance of your arrival. Announce when you are coming and that you want to meet anyone who might be family. This is apparently a very common practice.

Also, he has run the Dublin marathon four times, though not for a few years. He has also run marathons elsewhere in Europe but says the Dublin one is unmatched for hospitality. People will run next to you to offer support. The last time he ran Dublin, he was passed at mile 7 by 5 nuns. They were wearing a full black habit--with running shoes--and recited the rosary the whole way. They flew through that race, Donal says, under the power of prayer. --Christina Tynan-Wood

There is a growing movement to get Aunt Margaret to join us on our Ireland trip. Wouldn't that be fabulous? What can we do to convince her to come? I think I will send her a note - everyone else should, too! love, kathleen

California Girls Book Flight!!

Hi Everybody, Jennifer and I booked our flight today, we are flying to NY 10/25 on Jet Blue leaving Long Beach @ 0710 arriving @ JFK 1530 and then we will meet up with Kathleen and Christy for the flight @ 1940 to Shannon on Aer Lingus, return flight 11/1 leaving Dublin @ 1140 arrive LAX 1450, Martin is still working on details of his flight, not sure if Beth is coming with him or not, I am still urging Leigh to come with us, she is close to signing on but is wondering if Aunt Margaret is coming for sure, she wants to hang out with "one of her own kind"(age wise!) she is worried about slowing the group down, I assured her she would not, anyway we are excited about going and just have to get our passports completed, and I just want to say Thank You Maureen for all your hard work, you have done a great job!

Everyone should have received their packets. I hope they are self explanatory. The deposit for the tour has been sent in. I expect to hear from Jill(CIE tours) today about it.
I am eager to know what our numbers are so if you plan to send your check( and you haven't let me know yet) please let me know your plans. If we have the 20 folks that is excellent..
Or we may have to draw in some stray Irish folk......
