New Polls Up

Save everyone a trip to the blog, I put up three polls: One on where to go. One on when to go. And one on when NOT to go. If you want to see another date or destination added to any of those, email it to me and I'll add it. (But do that quickly if you want to catch it before everyone has already voted; these polls are live now and Dan has a head start.) The polls close on Christmas Eve so get to it or we'll decide without you! This is the last poll I'm putting up. Next, we get out a map and a calendar and start throwing darts at them!

The Votes Are In

Okay, so the votes have been in for a little while and it's me who is tardy. The poll displays the results on the site, though. So you can see that 13 people voted and 11 asked for another vote. Okay! I'll put up another poll today – if I can remember what to ask. (After lunch though because it's lunch time, I think.)

Meanwhile, my book is in stores this week. That's why I've been distracted. You would think I would have nothing to do now that it's in print but that is not so…free articles, free radio interviews, free blog entries. All to promote the book. No wonder writers are broke.

You should be able to buy it on Amazon by Friday -- as opposed to pre-ordering as some of you (thank you!) did. Title: How to Be a Geek Goddess by Christina Tynan-Wood (that's me.) It would make a great xmass present! Anyone want signed copies?

Did I already mention the glowing review in the New York times? It's here. It's pretty great, the review. And I don't even know the reviewer!

P.S.: Dan is seriously pressuring me to tell everyone this stuff—over and over again. Normally I'm not so pushy. But he says he'll do it if I don't and none of us want that so…. J

The Vote

So what happened with the vote?? Any decisions? Any news??

12 have voted

Yeah to all of us who have voted. I can't tell what the verdict is regarding the vote...... and since the poll closes tomorrow, all I can assume is only 12 people want to weigh in(or 6 people who voted twice) so let's go with what we have unless there is a flurry tomorrow.
Hey, Christina, is there any consensus on a destination?

Spring, Summer?

Hey all --   FYI, David  is done with teaching by late May --  I guess I could pull Daniel out of kindergarten for a few days if Cathy can't do late June/early July.  Memorial Day weekend is a school holiday anyway, so we might be able to schedule it around that.    Is late July, a possibility?

Family Spirit

Okay, I admit up front that I haven’t been the most blog-worthy correspondent on this matter, so I have no moral high ground from which to urge you to post or answer questions or give suggestions or vote in polls. But that never stopped me before!!!

Just a tad over two years ago most of us enjoyed one of the most memorable and fun trips ever….together…. and vowed that we would do it again. It’s time! I think most everybody has showed an interest in planning another trip; in fact we hope to include even more family members on the next one I think.

Christina has gamely offered to be our organizer for this one --- THANK YOU!!!! ---- but many of us, me included, haven’t been very helpful.

So it’s time to get on the stick!

Do we want to do this????

When???? Christy helped us last time by signing up for the Dublin marathon which then dictated the time and place. I love you all, but I’m not signing up for any marathons! So, does anyone have a better idea?

When I was the editor of my high school newspaper, The Statesman, I was always writing editorials about school spirit and urging my fellow students to show some enthusiasm, come to school events, etc. I feel like I’m doing it again!!!

Christina has thrown out a number of ideas and time frames. Some folks have been fabulous about responding…. But not many. HELLO!!!!!! WHERE ARE YOU??????

We’ll never find a perfect time for everyone to do this, but let’s start somewhere and hone in on it. If school months are totally out for too many people, we’ll look at just summer possibilities. Or if there’s a spring break week in there that would work, let everybody know.

I know that email is SOOOO passé but I still use it and I’m sure many others do. I haven’t gotten into the Facebook thing yet but I think I’m going to have to, since so many of you are there already. And then there’s the blog Christina has created. http://www.blogger.com/i.g?inviteID=6811117282632953238&blogID=24265692 . If that’s not enough ways for us to communicate then we should just give up and stay home.

So….. are we doing this, or what?
Love, Kathleen

Poll

I have a confession to make. I voted twice. Once for Spring 2009 and I believe my other vote was for Spring of 2010 if that was an option. I believe in voting early and often. This means only seven of us actually voted.

Maybe we should vote based on when people can't go and pick the time period where the most people can go. I know there was some discussion regarding school schedules versus other schedules, i.e. my job is centered around a big event that takes place the 3rd weekend in July making it hard for me to leave in the summer. Maybe I should quit my job.

Feel free to ignore this suggestion.

calling all cousins

I don't get where all of you are???? There were 9 votes last poll but there are so many more of us than that. Ireland was fabulous and any of you who were there know that. Any of you who missed it don't want to miss this trip. Vote, Vote, Vote. You know like last Tuesday just not as exciting......
VOTE!

The Votes are In…Too Close to Call?

Eight people voted in the poll on WHEN to do this trip. Is that enough voters? (Polls are to the left of this post. Did you see it?)

The results are also not that clear. There is a slight lead for Spring 09 but Summer 09 and Fall/Winter 09 are tied in a close second. Is this Too Close to Call? (Not to be confused with TOO EARLY TO CALL.)

What do you think? Should we call it at Spring 09 or head back to the polls? Let's vote on that!

If you are reading this in an email feed, you do have to come to the site to vote in these polls. It's very easy. Just tick a box.

I'm putting up a quick poll on if we should accept these results or vote again. So if you missed that last poll, vote on this one. If you think people are not following along and you want them to vote, why not send a note?

Get out and vote! This poll closes on the 19th.

How About Chicago?

It looked like fun last night anyway. Sorry I missed it.

Did you all see there is a new poll up? This is a stab at narrowing down the timeframe so get up there and vote. Now we are all REALLY good at it. Blogger will automatically close the poll at some date I don't recall so….

New Poll Up

Hey,

Sorry it took me so long. Very busy--and travelling. To Iceland, among other places. (Now THAT would be a nice place for a get-together.)

I love the idea of a train trip Orient Express style.

I put up a poll with some times to choose from.

PLEASE CHECK OUT ANNIE MADDEN'S RESPITE FOR WOMEN

Because I am so excited about this new venture, I am crashing this "travel" blog to invite you to a new blog. I am a novice. I hope you are able to get there from here-
Good Luck with your travels. If I had the means and the ability-my vote would be for a train trip "Orient Express" type...through Canada and Alaska- but I do not have the means or ability to take a trip right now -so carry on-

Reminder

Hello clan --

Just want to remind everyone that there are a number of us with school-age kids, so the usual non-school weeks would be the best;  President's Week, late June/early July, the week between X-mas and New Year's Day.   Speaking of which, we're going to Disney World the day after Thanksgiving until the following Monday. My first visit, and Daniel's first, too!

I'm doing this from my email account, per X-tina and Dan's instructions.  Hope it works!

Exit Strategy

It's exciting to think about joining you all on a trip, not only for the great company, but to escape reality for a while. For me, June/July and certain weeks in August are difficult. In any case, I may elect to bring Nils but leave Chris at home. I've always wanted to shoot wolf from up above so Alaska may provide some fringe benefit. Seriously though, Alaska is an incredibly beautiful place and I'd really like to go back. I'm also up for points south but not in the summer. I find it's better to go to warm places when it's cold at home. I went to Costa Rica in May/June and the sheets were wet at night from the humidity.

To change the subject for the moment, I would love to catch up on what we know re: our Irish Ancestry. I'm thinking of spending some money/hiring someone to find, once and for all, Nanny and/or Pop's birth certificate. I think I saved info from the blog 2 years ago but if anyone has it chronicled, please forward it to me.

Thanks much,
Cathy

When??

Christina, I think to get the party moving forward, how about giving us three or so different time frames to choose from. Whichever wins may eliminate an option say the Alaskan cruise if it falls at a time other than what works for most. I would pick next August or next October( the last week) or summer of 2010.

Late to the party

Sorry...it's taken me all this time to create a gmail address so I could sign up. So I haven't voted, haven't seen polls, haven't done much of anything. But I'm excited for whatever we decide to do. Just let's decide to do it before the entire American economy crumbles and none of us has any money left!
What do I need to do? Is there somewhere I need to vote for something???

More ideas...

Hello my clan....

I still like the idea of a cruise, but a cool resort would also be nice....Christina's Safari sounds amazing.  Meanwhile, re: Mexico, have you Los Angelenos been to Cabo St. Lucas on the Baja Penninsula?  My haircutter goes there and loves it.  Puerto Vallarta is also nice, I understand.    No interest whatsoever in Cancun, which was a tourist trap 25 years ago when I went there.

As for WHEN -- maybe President's Week in 2010?   Or if we can pull it together, sometime around St. Patrick's Day in 2009?

We Need Another Poll!

The last poll revelaed that people like Alaska, a groovy retreat, and a couple of other ideas. Blogger closed that poll so we need another with some new--possibly more specific?--ideas.

I'll set up another poll, if you tell me what to put in the poll.

I'll also set up a poll for WHEN! But give me some ideas for what to put in there too.

I'll start things off: How About Safari West? It's a groovy Napa resort with elephants and tigers. Think of the near-death esperiences we memories we would have! I know a guy who knows the owner. Maybe I can get us a deal....

Sorry I never got around to voting...I am psyched for another trip, depending on when and how much $$$. While Alaska sounds amazing, I think it's pretty pricey. I don't know much about cruises leaving from the west coast, but the cruise the O'Connors took to the Caribbean was a great family trip with something for everyone. I would vote for a cruise in warm climate or even a resort stay on the west coast.

Don’t Forget to Vote!

It's good practice for the upcoming election. It's fun. It's easy. You should vote! You don't have to log in or post or figure anything out. Just click on the places you would most like to go. You can vote for more than one. And it's only a poll, not a decision. So relax. It looks like only 6 people have voted so far.

If anyone needs help logging in, registering, or any of that, please let me know.

Posting via eMail

Everyone loves email, right? And you can post to this blog simply by writing an email--to your own private blog-to email address--and sending it. Here's how.

First follow the directions in your invite email for registering with this blog. Got that? Let me know if you need help with that. I'm going to check and see how many of you have managed that in a minute so...well. I will. That's all.

Once you are a registered blog author, here's what you do to secure an email address you can use to SEND emails here that show up as blog posts:

Click on the Settings tab from the basic dashboard, which should be the first thing you see. It looks like this:

Then click on Email from the menu you get. It looks like this:

See it? Okay, you should get this menu next:

Ignore that top bit about the BlogSend addresses. It's the bit on the bottom you want. Where it says Mail-to-Blogger Address, you will see your email, a blank spot, and blogger.com. (This example has mine.) Fill the blank section in with something you can remember. Then click Save Settings. Make a note of that address you just created by entering it in your email address book.
Now anything you send to that email address will show up here as a blog post. You can see an example of it in Dan's post.

Let me know if you need help with that!

Also, posting from Word 2007 is super easy so let me know if you use that and want directions.

Happy blogging!

Remember when....

Remember this?

That's the now-married Emma dancing on stage with that traditional Irish band we all went to see.

What were they called? The Merry Plowboys?

Amazing work, Dan and Christina

The Tynanwood travel-tech service is very impressive indeed!    I feel that we are in very capable hands.

This is Just a Test of the Email System

If this test works, this email will show up as a blog post on the
Madd(en) Tynan Travels blog. And won't that be special?

dt

Another Trip!

It started this morning. The seed for another trip with the greater Tynan/Madden tribe was planted by Maureen. And so we begin again! Woo-hoo!

The blog was lots of fun last time so I unearthed it, redecorated, dusted, and renamed. (Well, Dan picked the name.) I didn't clean out any of our posts from the Ireland trip, though, because there are so many memories there. **sniff** And one day in the distant future, when we sit in a pub in Ireland (or a desolate beach in Mexico if things have a little differntly than planned) all aged and dwelling on our memories, we will be able to look here for a full acount of all the Madd(en) Tynan travel adventures. (Provided they do something about the Internet access between now and then.)

Blogger has improved a lot since the last time we used it. So this time everyone gets their own account to log in and post with. You should be getting yours via email very soon. If not, well send me a note and I'll fx that (christina [at] tynanwood [dot] com.) You might need a gmail email address to do that but those are easy to get--and oh so hip. Your invite should walk you through that step-by-step. It should even provide you with an email address you can use for posting if you prefer that.
